Matureaccountants was started in 2005 by Chartered Accountant Martin Lloyd-Penny as a result of his personal experience of being over 50 (just) and out of work - as he soon discovered not a good combination!
Martin knew from his years in both industry and the profession that there is no substitute for experience. A "mature" accountant has the depth of knowledge and skills that is vital when steering a company through major periods of change. Whether the change process involves financing growth, acquisitions, rationalisation, saving the company money or more importantly saving the company! But it can also be lonely running a business and many owner managers understand the benefit of working with people who have seen it all before.

"Having firstly registered with Mature Accountants as a candidate, I was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing attitude and outlook that Martin brought to the recruitment industry (having been FD of a large recruitment agency myself for the past 12 years!). When my new company had a staffing requirement, I thought I would "test" the other side of the fence.
Unlike most other agencies, there were no high pressure sales pitches, no arguing over ridiculous fee structures, no continuous harassment, just a factual conversation over what was required, a brief job description provided from myself. This was then put into M.A.'s format, sent to me for verification, and was on their site within 24 hours.
Within a further 24 hours I had a selection of relevant candidates to choose from, I made my own choices out of these, interviewed 2, both of whom were eminently suitable, and was in a position to make an offer within days.

Having arrived in an interim FD slot, I quickly realised I was going to need help ? and fast. I had no time to waste with ?traditional? agencies and long briefings. Bridgeman Art Library recruited their Financial Controller vacancy through Mature Accountants. A difficult role at a time in the company when extensive restructuring and developing is being configured for their whole IT systems and programs. They needed to find someone who would be able to take up the challenge that this poses by contributing in the development of the new systems, whilst keeping in consideration the specialist field and requirements that this digital international library has to contend with.
